Does anybody think it would be wrong for me to have a bee as my avatar on Tumblr? I mean, you shouldn’t really subscribe to me if insects trigger you, but there could be folks browsing tags who see a post by me and see my avatar. Do you think I should pick something less potentially triggering? I want to express myself, but not if it could trigger someone accidentally…
Oh, uh, hm, that question can be tough to answer. Otherkin are people individuals entities who identify as something non-human and feel a kinship with something else. There are lots of otherkin who identify as elves and other fae, as well as large mammals. More rarely, otherkin identify as insects, plants, or even what you would consider to be objects.

And there are a lot of people on tumblr who post pictures of dead bees and bees they’ve killed and themselves killing bees and I’m shocked. You wouldn’t post a picture of a dead human or even a dead cat/dog, would you? Why is it okay to post dead insects, then?!
Oh, heh, also:
To those few of you who I’ve already shared myself with, thanks so much for being accepting and sticking with me. Feel free to follow this tumblr, but please please please please don’t link it to my main one, okay?
Hi everyone, my name is Ivy and I’ve made this tumblr so I can explore who I am without my other followers knowing just yet. I’m afraid to come out and I’m hoping to figure out the best way to tell my internet pals, irl friends, and eventually my family *shudder*. For right now, though, I’m just looking to learn and, well, be myself. Thanks for reading.
